he Sacred Valley tour is one of the most popular tours in the region. The Sacred Valley of the Incas was a crucial area for the Inca empire and it functioned as both an agricultural, spiritual and political center for them. Throughout its length there are many Inca and Pre-Inca sites that can be found and the Sacred Valley tour visits the 2 main sites, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Lasting a full day you will get to appreciate the fine works of craftmanship that the Incas produced and see the beautiful scenery of the Sacred Valley. Many tourists opt to do this tour just before their visit to Machu Picchu as you can choose to finish in Ollantaytambo from where you take the train on to Aguas Calientes (the town at the base of Machu Picchu).
”If you are in cusco don’t miss out on the Sacred Valley, it is situated slightly lower than cusco and can help with acclimatisation. A days trip can take in a number of sights, the main and impressive one being Ollantaytambo a huge hill fortress, mind blowing in its size and construction, allow some time to look around the town too. The valley is very green and fertile with the river running through and you can even stop off for some chicha morada (a purple corn fermented drink) on the way back to Cusco”.
Located in the colonial area of Pisac is this famous and vibrant market. Take in the sights and sounds of this unqiue experience, and don’t forget to stock up on affordable souvenirs for friends and family! You will have approximately 30 minutes to visit the market, so make sure you bring some extra cash to get the perfect gift.

After finishing in Pisac your group will begin the journey through the Sacred Valley, the next stop being for lunch in the town of Urubamba. Make sure you reserve this ahead of time to get the lower Machupicchu Hiking Peru price. If you choose to not reserve the buffet lunch it is recommended you bring a box lunch along with you as the bus will not bring you to another restaurant. The buffet is highly recommended, offering a great taste of the local Peruvian cuisine with over 20 different dishes and desserts!
After lunch the journey continues along the valley to the town and ruins of Ollantaytambo. Founded by the Inca Ollanta on the banks of the Urubamba River, Ollantaytambo is a fort built into the mountain with Andean terraces and also a traditional town. At the top of the ruins we find the Sun Temple, constructed of large blocks that have remained intact for centuries in spite of the effects of time and weather.
It is possible to end your tour here and stay in Ollantaytambo. This works well to then take the train directly to Aguas Calientes and spend the night there, visiting Machu Picchu the following day! (ask us about our “Sacred Machu Picchu” 2 day by train to Machu Picchu tour!)
Heading on from Ollantaytambo the bus will return via Urubamba and then head up and out of the valley to the highlands, above where you will make a final stop in the town of Chinchero. Chinchero is famous for its Chinchero Weaving Tour: Weave Alpaca and Sheep Wool into Fine Textiles and how to make natural dyes using medicinal plants, flowers, seeds, roots, volcanic stones. It famous for their handmade textiles and weavings, you will return to Cusco, arriving at approximately 18:30pm
